Sketch - Valor Back by MAGNUS-8M Sketch - Valor Back by MAGNUS-8M
I never draw the back of my characters really; I have an idea of what they SHOULD look like, I just rarely need to.

I also don't do full-height drawings of them much, so things like Valor's hard-skirt armor and platform boots are rarely seen. (I barely even know how to draw her hard-skirt correctly anyway, so I tend to avoid drawing it altogether.)

So anyway, although I should have been working on the back-cover page I decided I'd do, as far behind as I am on that, I just decided to do this today. For a moment I thought of doing a full project of it, and I suppose I always COULD later, but for now it's too complex and not clear enough to be able to lineart in my opinion. Maybe later, but here's a sketch now.

And there's a bonus nonsensical targeting system that has no meaning too. It's mostly nonsensical because Valor's right eye is inaccessible, which makes her unable to see in 3D, which diminishes her targeting abilities anyway, but I add it for flare and practice and whatnot. Iiiiit's mostly whatnot.

Oooh I like the sketch, when i do too many lines they always come out way too messy @_@;;;

Thanks! ..but, my sketches are ALWAYS messy.. I kind of helped this one along by making it partially transparent to make it less black, but I also soft-erased a few places which made it look a little better. I watch some people who do SUCH great sketches though, mine don't even come close.. x_x;

Cool, now there's an interesting idea for a drawing. I like the concept and all the details going on. You certainly can pack quite a punch when it comes to character design, especially from all angles.

Thanks! I'm still really confused about how to draw the hard-skirt armor, though. I've come up with different ways of simplifying their shapes so I can visualize the basic shape easier, but I still don't know how to make it look like how I imagine it.. *shrug*

I'm impressed at how well you can draw armor. It makes me envious because being able to draw that kind of texturing leaves open so many possibilities for other illustration opportunities as far as character design goes.

No prob though.

Well, I say 'armor', but it really just looks like a combination of a skirt and a ballerina tutu. =P The armor part is just the end-segments and the fact that it's also made of the same spider-silk+other-material compound. But that's also what makes it hard is that I'm basically drawing something that doesn't exist outside of my imagination, so although I FEEL like I've seen it before and should find a good example to draw from, it doesn't exist, and I keep stumbling around not quite getting it right all the time.

...this one did come out better than it usually does, though, so I'm glad for that at least. Out of boredom I actually started messing around in blender to see if I could make it in 3D by creating one segment and replicating it 11 more times, but I didn't really do it the easy way, and I haven't adjusted the segments to fit yet, so it looks kinda bad. It'd be great if I had a 3D model of all my characters at some point, but just modeling easy-geometry 'things' like this would be a good enough help on its own...if I could actually get it to look right.

Oh, okay. o.o; It looks more like armor from this drawing without color but yeah. Might just be the perspective too, since you can't see much from the front.

It'd be interesting to see you do some of that, kind of like our friend :iconlitonico: does. Maybe practice some more and see if you could get at least something basic down?

Well I messed around a bit more today, trying to do it the smart/easy/efficient way, but I screwed up several things that kinda messed it up. And of course we're just talking about her skirt here, actually modelling a human being(or robot shaped like a human being in this case) is just nuts for me. I've tried several times, but I always stop short of getting anywhere recognizable. I wish I could at LEAST get N64-detail going, but even that is nearly impossible for me at the moment. But if I'm ever able to do something I'm comfortable sharing I'll upload something one day I'm sure... but for me, I just really want a 3D reference I could make use of later.

I guess it's somewhat of a start, right?
