This one took a little longer than expected...the sketch was actually FIRST started back in October 2008, but I put that one aside until about March 2009, and started this sketch all in about four hours(split across two days), which is pretty fast for me. I started it towards the end of March, so it's been a little less than a month since I started.
Personally, I kind of don't like the colors.....story-wise, she is a Shiny Venusaur, but I think that the original color scheme works better for her being a Dark Queen. Still, it didn't come out too bad; but my original idea of making the dress 'shiny' by making the original colors the 'shaded areas'(dark cyan shade for bright green base?) didn't work out as well as I'd hoped. But it's there I guess.
I didn't shade the eyes. It never seemed to look right.
I probably overdid the sparkles.
Anyway, this is Matilde's mother, Queen Aurelie. Again, in this story-line, it is forbidden to become even a second-stage Pokemon, let alone a third. Aurelie was a good Queen of the Leaf Kingdom even though she became an Ivysaur at a young age. However, at the death of her husband and with the Fire Kingdom pressing in, she began to look for a legendary ancient power. At some point in her progress, her Everstone was lost, and it wasn't long before she became a Vensaur. Overwhelmed by her own unexpected newfound powers, she overthrew her own kingdom, and ordered all her subjects to destroy all of their own Everstones as well.
The maid of her daughter, Steffani, saw what was happening, and fled with Matilde and the egg of Kamiko, although their Everstones were lost or stolen during their escape.
Aurelie allowed them to escape, knowing they would have to return sometime. She continued her search using the subjects of her kingdom to dig with their own newfound strengths. But as time passed, she began to send out massive root systems into the nearby kingdoms, searching for the whereabouts of her daughter.
Venusaur is (C) Nintendo, Pokemon, Creatures Inc, Game Freak
Haha, thank you very much as always.. I've had the design in mind for quite a while, but it took some time to figure out how it should all come together..
Heh heh, I kind of noticed the resemblance between her and Matilde and figured they must be related in some way--makes sense.
Well anyway, I'm definitely dubbing this as one of your top 3 best artworks I've seen. The style is charming and vibrant, really goes a long way in capturing a more refined side to Venusaur. Makes almost perfect for an official anime illustration, especially dealing with the clean and smooth lineart.
Just as always, fantastic work Mag dude.

Oh, thank you very much. I hope the advice helps, and if you need any more let me know..!
I think this is why I enjoy doing gijinka so much, because I like to make them look as much like the original as I can, but trying to keep it natural-looking too(and I prefer to keep at least some animal-features for mine).
Well, I just didn't want people to think it WAS Matilde... They almost look a little too much alike.
I'm mostly happy with it, I just wish I could have completed the shiny-dress style that the smaller upper-body has on the lower-body. But the lower-body required so many long strokes, and my hand just won't stay steady for that. :/
Anyways, thanks again..! Not sure what I'll do next..
Either way, I still think it looks great because you put a lotta effort into it, and it clearly shows.
No probs, just sayin' it like it is dude.
Oh, and just a quick question...but I noticed you deleted the last journal of yours I think where I mentioned my Wii Remote problem. I took a quick vid with my digital camera of the sensor bar, and on the right of it there appeared to be a small series of purple-ish lights consisting of roughly 4 or 5 of them. Do you know what that means, by any chance? Cuz I'm still having that sensitivity issue...

Oh MAN, the colors are excellent. I love every bit of it... the sparkles are really awesome too I don't think you over did em' at all.
I really enjoy how you used the blue to green almost ' pearlescent' paint job on the dress. Color choice is usually what makes a great picture and you definitely nailed those.
I really like it. I always liked your Gijinka submissions... -twiddles thumbs- I wanted to do something of the sort at some point in time. D:...
Oh well, GREAT job!

Ah that's okay.. And thanks a lot, I really appreciate the comments..
I actually chose those 'shade' colors because they were the actual not-shiny colors for each section(shiny flowers were orange, normal was ruby-ish red, so the red became the shade). I did adjust them slightly so that they looked like that pearlescent-like color-changing(I see girls in prom dresses that remind me of what I'm thinking of), but by and large they were already 'chosen' for me.
I actually wanted to make this a 'hologram' card...not so much that it would change depending on the viewing angle(obviously), but just look like someone had scanned-in a hologram card. Not sure how I would do that, but I did research some card-scans to see what I needed to emulate to make it look like that...I just didn't do it for time-reasons and I wasn't sure how Pokedex would feel about it. But it was fun doing some tiny experiments with it even if I didn't finish it with that. Some other time maybe(if I could really pull it off)
